We are happy to announce support for the AML LDX10 Mobile Handheld for taking physical inventories. We are impressed with this integrated design based on Windows® Embedded 6.0 with a rugged case, built in touch screen, tactile keyboard and built-in scanner. But it’s best feature is the ability to load a validation file of all SKUs (and ALUs) in Merchant Plus! so invalid SKUs can be identified as merchandise is scanned.
Validation of all SKUs and Alternate Look Up codes provides the operator instant feedback of a bad read or unrecognized bar code than older technologies that don’t identify invalid SKUs until the file is imported. This will help identify bad scans where the wrong tag is scanned (such as the manufacturer’s UPC if they aren’t maintained in the system). New customers are benefited with a way to identify old SKUs that weren’t converted to the system immediately for correction. Additionally, a separate file can be created for Open Merchandise where goods are only tracked by class or class/vendor – those SKUs are excluded from the validation when just entering controlled SKUs but are used to validate the class codes when counting class level “open” merchandise where a retail price must be entered.
Right before a physical count, simply create the validation files with the ALU Export for Physical Inventories utility. When the AML device is plugged in, the validation files are automatically updated. Bad reads are instantly identified with a loud beep and a red flashing message on the resistive touch screen display. The communications software is very easy to use so counts are easily imported into the Physical Inventory Wizard.
Source marked goods using UPC, EAN and other bar codes can also be included in the validation if they are being associated to the products. Remember, UPC/ALU Scanning at Receiving is a great way to update UPC codes as part of scanning new merchandise into the store.
