Be careful to not inadvertently install Windows 10!
Microsoft has made recent changes to move toward automatic updates, like Apple and Android does. The good news is that Windows 10 will be free for anyone running Windows 7 or Windows 8. Unfortunately, many third party applications and hardware drivers must also be updated to run properly in this environment. Merchant Plus! 5.1 does not yet support Windows 10!
Please do not install this update. There is no reversing this update. If it is installed, a complete software reload will need to occur. This means reloading Windows 7/8, all security patches, SQL server and the Merchant Plus software suite, etc. Operating systems should never be updated without confirming compatibility with all your software and hardware.
If you see the above icon on the right side of the system tray prompting to ”Get Windows 10”, do not click on it. When installing updates, be careful that the default settings don’t upgrade the computer to Windows 10. It is critical that this upgrade is not installed.
If you see the above Windows Update, click on “Show all available updates” to unmark the check box to “upgrade to Windows 10 Pro”. Right-click on the update and select “Hide update” and press cancel at the bottom to close.
See our Obsolescence page for up to date information on obsolete and supported operating systems.
[…] Merchant Plus! support for Windows 10 is expected in 2016. See our post on being careful not to inadvertently update to Windows 10 here. […]
