Microsoft stopped providing security updates for Windows XP in April of 2014. Nor will Windows XP run our latest version of Merchant Plus! (5.1). If you didn’t have a reason to replace your XP computers before, this should be the straw that breaks the camel’s back. We just now received notice from LogMeIn that after the end of the year we will not be able to log in remotely to any computer running Windows XP. We expect similar notices for virus protection and backup software as more and more companies tighten security adherence policies.
Effective January 1st, since we will not be able to log in remotely to any Windows XP computer, any support for Merchant Plus on an XP computer will be billable on an hourly basis.
The risk of doing nothing exceeds the cost to replace unsupported technology. For your own protection, please upgrade any remaining XP computers on your network; even if they aren’t running Merchant Plus! they can introduce viruses to your cardholder data environment.
